Mayor Chávez and the City of Albuquerque are proud to be members of the Sky Blue program offered by the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM).
Today, 20% of the power used by City government comes from wind farms located in New Mexico. That's 18 million kilowatt hours (kwh) each year - the same amount of energy needed to power a standard 60 watt lighbulb for over 35,000 years! By using wind power, the City reduces pollution and the emissions that cause global warming.
Where is Our Wind Energy Made?
The wind energy used by the City of Albuquerque is created near Clovis, New Mexico. There are 136 turbines at the New Mexico Wind Energy Center on a field covering 9,600 acres. Each turbine is 210 feet tall -- that's taller than the El Morro National Monument!
