Quality Web Content Checklist

Required:

  • The title is specific, relevant, and uses title case (not all caps or sentence structure)
  • No quotation marks or other punctuation in the title
  • Do not reiterate title or contact in the body content area (Noticias)
  • The appropriate audience is chosen and the content is directly relevant to the chosen audience
  • The content answers the following: who, what, when, where, why, how?
  • The content is written in a news release fashion with appropriate spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and paragraphs
  • Content is written at an 8th grade reading level
  • Content is written from the perspective of the citizen, not the department
  • Effort has been made to eliminate bureaucratic speak
  • Content is friendly and inviting (why should I attend this event? Convince me.)
  • No previous knowledge of the department or service is assumed
  • Bullets or numbered lists are used to simplify complex information
  • Fonts/styles from MS Word have been removed so the style sheet works properly (Noticias tip)
  • Acronyms are not used, are used as little as possible, or are spelled out entirely at least once
  • Words are not unnecessarily capitalized
  • Words are not in all caps, as this implies screaming
  • Words are not underlined, as this implies a hyperlink
  • Language is gender neutral
  • There is at least one hyperlink for more information (Noticias)
  • Words are hyperlinked, as opposed to the website address itself, especially for links to cabq.gov
  • “Click here” or “here” are not used for hyperlinks

Highly Encouraged:

  • Can a photo be added?
  • Does the photo have alternative text?
  • Does text flow around the image?
