An award-winning band that takes swing beyond the confines of traditional western styles.
While the Carolyn Martin Swing Band performs western swing classics from Bob Wills, Cindy Walker and Spade Cooley, they cross the divide to bring swing era songs from Peggy Lee, Hoagy Carmichael and Louis Armstrong. Then they throw in a few show tunes from Broadway and Hollywood, traditional country tunes from Faron Young and Hank Williams, and new material written by Martin and her friends. For those who like variety in their music, The Carolyn Martin Swing Band is a true treat for the ears. As a special treat for those who love to swing dance, the wood dance floor will be open for dancing throughout the concert.
Inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in 2011, Carolyn Martin was twice nominated, and was the 2008 recipient, of the Academy of Western Artists’ Will Rogers Cowboy Award for Western Swing Female Vocalist of the Year. Her CD, “Swing,” was nominated as Western Swing Album of the Year by the Western Music Association, and western swing DJs and reviewers around the world named “Swing” as one of the Top 10 albums of the 2008. Her “Cooking with Carolyn” album was nominated for Album of the Year in 2011, and won over major groups like Asleep at the Wheel, Hot Club of Cowtown, and others. Carolyn Martin’s latest album is “A Platter of Brownies – The Music of Milton Brown,” a tribute to the American band leader and vocalist who co-founded the genre of Western Swing. His band was the first to fuse “hillbilly hokum”, jazz and pop together into a unique, distinctly American hybrid, thus giving him the nickname, "Father of Western Swing".
