Blue Cart Recycle Program Continues. RecycleBank rewards program will end on June 30th

The City of Albuquerque would like to thank all of the households that are continuing to participate in the residential blue recycle cart pilot program. Your efforts are making the pilot collection program a success and are contributing to determining the feasibility of expanding the program citywide. While, the City will continue to service your blue cart for recycling, the RecycleBank rewards portion of the pilot will end on June 30, 2010. The City has appreciated the opportunity to partner with RecycleBank in this innovative incentive program.

The City initiated a fully-automated recycling cart pilot program with RecycleBank rewards in late 2008. The pilot encompasses approximately 10,000 households. Of these, during the 18-month pilot, only about 1,200 redeemed any rewards through the RecycleBank component of the pilot. Now, the City would like to determine the effect the carts may have on the participation levels of pilot households, without rewards.

FAQ's

Does this mean that we can still use our blue recycle cart for recycling?

YES! Pilot households are urged to continue to recycle using the blue recycle cart; however, they will no longer be able to earn rewards through RecycleBank, effective June 30th. The Department will continue to service the blue recycling carts and recycle what is collected!

What happens to the points I have already accumulated?

While pilot households will no longer earn additional Reward Points for recycling after June 30th, RecycleBank will continue to honor previously-earned Reward Points through their 400 brand name national and local retailers, including CVS Pharmacy, Coca Cola, Dunkin’ Donuts, Kraft Foods and Target.com. Reward Points will not expire for a full 12 months.

Can I continue to earn points?

Recycling using your blue cart will no longer earn you points; however, RecycleBank will continue to offer pilot households ongoing opportunities to earn points for greener activities outside of home recycling.
