Have you considered an Earned Income Tax Credit? During this tax season, Mayor Martin J. Chavez invites you to explore possibilities that might entitle you to extra cash.

• The EITC is a federal income tax credit for people who work, but don’t earn much money. Individuals who qualify could receive refunds up to $4,800 for tax year 2008. 
• 30,000 New Mexico working families who were eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit failed to claim it. That means a loss of about $74 million to $136 million to NM residents.

• Difficult economic times may mean even more people are eligible for the EITC because of reductions in their income in 2008.
