Hahn Arroyo Project
Flood control meets public art!
Public Art Process
Nan Masland, the Public Art Coordinator for the project, gathered input from the community about the designs and worked with children from the Wells Park and Barelas Community Centers to make them.
An example of the mosaic tile process and design.
The Hahn Arroyo Project will improve flood control and water quality.
This stretch of the Hahn Arroyo is now enhanced with a new state-of-the-art water filtration system, new seating, improved walkways and bicycle paths.
Hahn Arroyo Public Art Project
The new and improved Hahn Arroyo is also a site for community-based public art.
The Public Art Program worked with AMAFCA and the Harwood Art Center to incorporate mosaic tiled designs along sections of the arroyo pathways.
These mosaic designs utilized a patented system called Lithomosaic™, which allowed the designs to be fabricated in a studio setting and then installed during the concrete pour.
