Albuquerque Fire Chief James Breen promoted two life long Albuquerque natives to lieutenant this week.
Christopher Otero and Brian Pacheco were both drivers before being promoted.
Otero will be assigned to Engine 1- C Shift. Otero was born and raised in Albuquerque and graduated high school from West Mesa in 1996. He was accepted into the 64th AFD Cadet Class and graduated in 2002. After graduating, he spent two years floating to various stations. He then spent two years on Engine 2 as a firefighter. For the past four years, Otero has been a driver on Engine 5.
Otero is married and has six children - five boys and one girl. His advice to the new firefighters is "to take pride in your job and never take it for granted."
Pacheco will be assigned as a floating Lieutenant on A -Shift. Pacheco was born and raised in Albuquerque and graduated from Rio Grande High School. Before becoming an Albuquerque firefighter, Pacheco spent a year fighting fires in Rio Rancho.
He was selected for the 63rd Lateral Cadet Class and completed his training in 2001. His first assignment with AFD was at Station 1 where he spent two years fighting fires and taking rescue calls in the downtown area. In 2006 he was promoted to a driver and worked at Station 11. Pacheco has two sons, the oldest is twenty-one and the youngest is fifteen.
