LOCAL TREND:
Percent of individuals living in poverty has risen every year since 2008 and sits at 19% in 2011. Unemployment in Albuquerque is measured annually in August and is at 6.8% in 2012, down from 8.7% in 2010. Median earnings for full-time male and female employees has risen every year since 2007.
NATIONAL/REGIONAL COMPARISON:
In 2011, five other peer cities have a higher percent of individuals living in poverty. Albuquerque is higher than the US average. Compared to peer cities in the Southwest and the US as a whole, Albuquerque's unemployment rate is about average. Median earnings among female workers is 2nd highest among 7 peer cities. The nation is higher than Albuquerque in male and female income earners.
CITIZEN PERCEPTION:
In 2011, Albuquerque citizens rated this desired condition as being important, and perceive that progress has been made in this area. Women rated the achievement of this desired condition as being more important than did men; the relationship between the importance of the condition and the gender of the respondent was true to a statistically significant degree. Although men and women perceived the importance of this condition as different, there was no difference between the perceived progress based on the gender of the respondent.
