LOCAL TREND:
In New Mexico, civil right lawsuit filings decreased 27.2% since 2008. Police complaints has stayed stable from 2008-2011. Though on the decline, the level of complaints in 2011 is still higher than its lowest point in 2003. Overall the trend is positive.
NATIONAL/REGIONAL COMPARISON:
New Mexico has the highest number of civil rights lawsuits filed per 100,000 population compared to peer states, though the gap has lessened. Albuquerque ranks 3rd of 6 for number of citizen complaints filed against police officers per 100,000 population.
CITIZEN PERCEPTION:
In 2011, Albuquerque citizens ranked this Desired Condition 10th in importance and 28th in progress for 57 surveyed Desired Conditions. Citizen perception matches local and regional progress.
