Where can I find the relevant laws and regulations regarding red light cameras? Is the legislation posted on-line somewhere, that is? I see the NM state laws on several sites, but nothing to be found on those of the city.

Safe Traffic Operations Program  Ordinance 7-11-1

Is there a list of all intersections that will eventually have cameras, and the justification for those cameras?

New locations have not yet been determined. The city currently has nineteen fixed automated traffic enforcement cameras in operation. These fixed locations are chosen by police and traffic engineering staff primarily based on amount of traffic and collision history. Redlight Locations

Are there plans to put any of these on Paseo Del Norte? It seems like that is an area that would become much safer with the cameras. Lots of speeding there, it seems to me. Maybe they don't have as many accidents. How are the intersections chosen?

How could I request that someone check the timing of the yellow going westbound at Montano and Coors? I use the intersection all the time and do not believe the yellow is anywhere close to 3 seconds.

Please contact City Traffic Engineering at 857-8680 as they can handle that request.

Increasing the yellow lights a half a second! Why don't you increase them by 5 seconds?

While the 1/2 second increase in the yellow light does on the surface appear to be paltry in nature, it is considerable once you factor in the time/distance/speed ratio information n top of the duration of the yellow light already.

Seems like the program is primarily set up to benefit Redfelx. If the city kept all the profits they could further local traffic safety programs rather than making the Arizona company very wealthy. The payment program is also set up to make it very difficult to contest with Redflex handling all the processing. Why doesn't Redflex take images of the actual drivers instead of making the vehicle owner the traffic enforcer? I recall reading where the photoradar program driver error rate was around 25% where the driver was photographed.

We don't photograph the drivers because we handle it in a civil arena similar to parking citations in the regard the registered owner is still liable for the offense.

In regard to the scenario you described: If you are already in the intersection awaiting to make a left turn, the light cycles red, oncoming traffic is clearing, you wait in a safe fashion to proceed, will you be cited? . No. once you are already in the intersection prior to the light cycling, you will not be cited.

How often are the cameras calibrated for speeding and what is the variance? I would hate to think if I was one or two miles over the speed limit that I would receive a $159 fine, considering different makes and models may not all be calibrated to what the cameras are. I am not to worried, because I think I may have received one maybe two speeding tickets in the 11 years I have lived in Albuquerque.

The system self calibrates on a continuous basis. They are manually checked a minimum of every 90 days as well. The variance is one mile per hour. In other words, the system has a few checks in place which determine speed and if they are off more than one mile per hour, they will not cite. Additionally, most of the intersections afford a lee way of up to 9 miles over.

I would like the technical data for the camera timing system that is used for these cameras in the distance-time calculation for speed assessment, to include the clock speed in MHz and the the model number and name of the clocking components.

That request can be made to Redflex at www.redflex.com

Ladara and Unser needs a red light camara real bad. Each day I witness a near miss from someone running the lights at this intersection.

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately at this time that intersection is not a consideration. However, I will forward your concerns to APD Traffic and the Westside Commander.

I received a letter saying I never sent in a payment or I never sent a notice saying i wanted to appeal the red light ticket. they said since I did neither that my vehicle will be seized. I for one never received a notice about a red light ticket. How can you seize someones vehicle for doing this? I wrote to the company in AZ I believe it was and told them this.

I would urge you to follow up on the letter your received as your vehicle can be seized via Civil sanctions. Please start by calling the numbers on said letter.

Can you tell me exactly the rule being followed for citing someone violating a red light?  I'm under the impression that if a vehicle has passed over the first set of white lines before the light turns red then they would not be cited.  Is this correct? If not, please explain what the guidelines being used are?

Only vehicles that enter the intersection after the light has turned red will be cited. The automated system uses ground loops to determine the vehicles that will not stop prior to the intersection.  For more information please see the Redlight FAQs.
