Problem
For the purposes of dealing with long-term issues, a problem is described as a group of incidents that have occurred over time and are linked by the following four factors:
bullet Behavior
bullet Location
bullet People
bullet Time
Also, a problem has to be of concern to the neighborhood and the police. Problems can be reported on this website to the Albuquerque Police Department. (Click here to see an example of an incident)

Incident
An incident is a one-time event that requires the attention of the Police. An incident can be evidence of a problem, but an incident occurs once. An incident would normally be reported to the police through a 911 emergency call or a call for service through 242-COPS (Click here to see an example of an incident)

Neighborhood Association
A Neighborhood Association is an organization recognized by the City of Albuquerque, Office of Neighborhood Coordination. Almost every neighborhood in Albuquerque is in an established Neighborhood Association. To find out what Neighborhood Association you live in; or to start one if one does not exist, please click on Neighborhood Association.

Block Watch
Many people often confuse Block Watch and Neighborhood Associations. A Block Watch is a crime prevention strategy that involves the Albuquerque Police Department helping you organize your block to protect you and your neighbors against crime.  A typical Block Watch is made up of 15 to 20 homes, ideally within line of site to each other. Please click here if you are interested in getting involved in the Block Watch program, or you may call Steve Sink, Crime Prevention Coordinator at (505)924-3506.
