On Friday, Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized an Albuquerque Police Officer who located a missing girl and apprehended her abductor.

Officer Lou Black was named this week’s Friday’s Hero.  Each week Mayor Richard J. Berry recognizes at least one public safety employee who goes above the call of duty.

“Officer Black’s actions undoubtedly saved this young lady from a very dangerous situation involving a sexual predator,” Mayor Berry said.

On Sept. 27, Albuquerque police received a call from the girl’s mother reporting that the 12-year-old was missing.  Officer Black took over the investigation and was in constant contact with the girl’s family as they desperately searched for her.

On the afternoon of the 28th the family called Officer Black reporting that their daughter’s friends had been receiving text messages from her indicating she was at a local hotel with a man.

Officer Black immediately went to the Motel 6 near Coors and Iliff NW and found the girl and 24-year-old Craig Armstrong. Armstrong is a registered sex offender and had a warrant for his arrest.

Investigators determined that the two met online and Armstrong traveled to Albuquerque to meet the girl in person.  Armstrong is now facing federal charges.
