At the direction of Mayor Richard J. Berry, Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz issued a special order Friday March 23, 2012 to all Albuquerque police officers instructing them to video tape every call for service they are dispatched to.
Albuquerque — the officers will be instructed to activate their video lapel cameras which
have been issued to all uniform personnel. Previously officers activated their cameras only on certain calls such as domestic violence cases. Now, officers will be required to turn on the camera at all calls. They will also be required to retain all video recordings for 120 days or tag the recording into evidence.
Officers who fail to follow the Chief’s special order will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Mayor Berry and Chief Schultz came to the decision to issue the new order in order to insure that all incidents handled by the Albuquerque Police are handled properly.
