Emergency Management Director Warns Residents to Curtail Travel

Winter Storm coming into Albuquerque

Albuquerque Emergency Management Director Sal Baragiola is warning residents to curtail travel in the Metropolitan Area as a winter storm is expected to move through Albuquerque.

This advisory comes after the National Weather Service just issued an alert that two to three inches of snow is expected to fall within an hour sometime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. today. The weather service is predicting there will be less than 500 feet of visibility when the snow starts to fall. Meteorologists from the weather service say when the snow starts to fall there will be “blizzard-like conditions” for an hour.

“This will be a fast moving storm,” Baragiola said. “If people don’t have to travel they shouldn’t. They should stay at home and watch the local media for updates.”

The city’s Emergency Operations Center is monitoring the storm. Meanwhile, the City of Albuquerque's Department of Municipal Development has a total of 10 trucks ready to clear the roads this afternoon.
