The International Association of Law Enforcement Planners (IALEP) is
comprised of people who work in law enforcement planning and research for
criminal justice agencies. IALEP has nearly 1000 members worldwide.
Each year the association selects a Project of the Year. The award recognizes a law enforcement planning project that has demonstrated a significant innovation, practice, technique, application of efficiency, measured effectiveness, or application that is deemed valuable by others and which has contributed to the operational and/or financial success of the agency and to the advancement of the law enforcement planning profession alike by way of tangible efficiency and/or effectiveness.
In 2011, IALEP chose the Albuquerque Police Department's Michael R. King / Richard W. Smith Memorial Substation facility as the recipient of this particular award. Bill Slauson, APD Planning and Policy Division Manager and project manager of the facility, accepted the award on the department's behalf. IALEP also recognized the department's 2010 Annual Report as the winner of the 2011 Annual Report Design Contest.
The outstanding work put into planning and overseeing the construction of the Michael R. King / Richard W. Smith Memorial Substation and the equally outstanding work put forth in gathering content for and designing the 2010 Annual Report garnered these prestigious awards.
