Dispose of unwanted guns and ammunition.
Every Saturday during the month of January the Albuquerque Police Department will be accepting firearms and ammunition, no questions asked, from anyone throughout the State who wishes to dispose of them. Guns will also be accepted every second Saturday of each month after January.
Residents can either drop off firearms and/or ammunition at the Metropolitan Forensic Science Center also known as the APD Crime Lab located at 5350 2nd St. NW, from 9 am to 3 pm on the designated disposal dates or they can call Crime Lab Director, Marc Adams, at (505) 235-3159 to make arrangements for in-town pickup or drop off.
Firearms and ammunition will be accepted without question. Any firearm with a significant historical value will be preserved. All firearms will be checked to see if they are stolen and if so will be returned to their rightful owner. All other firearms will be destroyed. APD already destroys an average of 120 firearms per month that come into the possession of APD through criminal investigations, seizures and that are randomly found within the city.
