Fantasy World Shooting Suspect Caught

Suspected Shooter New to Albuquerque and Wanted in Arkansas

By Officer Tasia Martinez

Albuquerque Police arrested a fleeing felony fugitive on Wednesday who is suspected of shooting a man in the back at the Fantasy World Nightclub on November 24, 2012.

The APD Gang Unit took Robert Alexander, 36, into custody following an undercover investigation into the shooting.  Alexander attempted to flee from the arrest team, but was captured and booked on charges in connection with the shooting as well as a felony warrant out of Arkansas.

The Gang Unit took the lead on this investigation after verifying that Alexander is a documented gang associate.  Alexander is a convicted felon who is not legally permitted to carry a firearm.  He reportedly moved to Albuquerque only a few weeks prior to the shooting at the nightclub.

Gang Detectives have also identified two additional subjects who were involved in the nightclub shooting and say the men will also face charges.

On the night of the shooting, a fight broke out between several subjects at the Fantasy World Nightclub.  As security escorted the individuals out of the club, Alexander retrieved a handgun and opened fire outside of the business, shooting a bystander in the back.

Alexander is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center on a $75,000 cash or surety bond.  The victim who was shot is said to be ok and recovering from the injury.
