Submitted by Shay Rose, CERT Training Coordinator

The following ABQ CERT members answered the call for EXTREME Makeover: Brian Fields ~ ABQ CERT PIO, Team Lead Sunday, Monday; Mike Rose ~ ABQ CERT PIO, Team Lead Saturday, Sunday; Jim Hunter~ABQ CERT PIO, Team Lead Assistant Saturday, Monday; Bobbie Mackenzie ~ Team Lead Assistant Saturday, Sunday; Aaron Loggins ~ Team Lead Assistant Saturday, Sunday, Monday; Jo Hunter, Linda Sedillo, Michael Cummings, Tiffany Mackenzie, Larry Byrd, Janet Adams, Bernice Pena, Susan Byrd, Patrick Rodarte, Rebecca England, Clay Wright, Mike Chavez, Susan Gafner, Renee Jones, Ada Blount, Glen Gafner, Vicki Voyles, Mollie Barnes, Diana Huntress, Margo Maher, Brian Salem, John Colclough, Kitty Juul, Laura Salem, Joan Jones, Shirley Martin and Margarito Hernandez.

We had two shifts noon to midnight Saturday and Sunday and the noon to 6 p.m. shift on Monday. We were able to provide organized man power for clean up, landscape, putting new furniture together, construction, sorting new items for all rooms of the houses and other smaller, but equally important, tasks that had to be done. ABQ CERT helped on the main house (Martinez home - I believe they called this the “Hero House”), one other small house ~ Extreme Makeover had leveled these ~ and rehab of another two complexes behind the Martinez house.

Many of the members I have recognized above worked through two shifts and much more. There is one member I must comment on: Tiffany Mackenzie. Tiffany was in our second ABQ CERT class. She was just short of her 18th birthday at graduation and became our first teen member. Tiffany now lives and works in California. She flew in Friday evening for a weekend visit with her family and old friends. What a fine example of our youth when civic duty and commitment to our ABQ CERT program is one of her priorities. (Yes, she did make time to enjoy her friends and family, but we were first on that list of hers!)

Once ABQ CERT dealt with “Extreme Sign In” we were actually one of the few organized groups that were really able to help get tasks accomplished to completion. I must say the production crew chiefs quickly learned ABQ CERT was a “GO TO” organized team of volunteers!!!

ABQ CERT members had a good time, felt really good with what they were doing, worked their fanny’s off at times, walked away with some sore achy muscles but I think most of all, we were able to get acquainted with fellow ABQ CERT members. The camaraderie among our Team members showed what teamwork is all about and what can be accomplished through organized teamwork. This event also gave all of you an opportunity to observe how, even on a small scale, following ICS guidelines, is crucial to getting much accomplished by a few and how quickly chaos can be controlled and organized. I am proud of our accomplishment with EXTREME Makeover – you should be too!

Thank you all so much.
