The Planning Process and Interagency Coordination

Many private and public organizations play a part in how the city develops and functions. The Long Range Planning division carries on a continuing relationship with numerous local and state government agencies responsible for physical and economic development, environmental protection, preservation, infrastructure development, and service delivery activities that affect Albuquerque's evolving character. Progress made in community revitalization, resource protection, and quality of life begins with coordination, cooperation, and planning rooted in the value that the City is for everyone and that we all have a vital place in determining the future.

Another role of this division is to help answer the question, “What are the costs and benefits of choices we face in shaping the City's future?” in a comprehensive way. Conversations with residents of the City allow us to understand how to weigh the social, economic, and environmental benefits of particular development decisions against the costs before decisions are made. Fiscal impact analyses are done for land-use proposals that go to City Council so Councilors might better understand the short- and long-term consequences of proposals before deciding final actions.
