Councilor Rey Garduño and the City of Albuquerque Planning Department are undertaking the development of a Sector Development Plan for the area from San Mateo to Wyoming and Lomas to the southern City limits. This area is known as the International District. This plan includes the area from San Mateo to Louisiana and will also update the La Mesa (1976) and Trumbull (1981) Sector Plans. The Plan area includes the following Neighborhoods:

Elder Homestead, South San Pedro, Fair West, La Mesa, Trumbull Village and Siesta Hills. This plan will deal with zoning, land use, streets, landscaping and architecture.

Through the planning process it is possible to change zoning, land use and requirements for landscaping and building design. These changes would occur in order to improve the health and safety of the community.

Comments, questions and suggestions can also be sent to the project manager, Maggie Gould.

Next Meeting

We will hold a public meeting to review the plan draft before it goes to the Evironmental Planning Commission. Watch this space for date, time and place information.

Thank you for your ongoing participation in the International District Sector Development Plan process.

Since this project began, residents, business owners and other stakeholders in the area have repeatedly raised concerns about problems caused by the sale of package alcohol in the International District. In hopes of better understanding this complicated issue and beginning to explore possible solutions, the planning team would like to invite you to participate in a community conversation about alcohol sales in the area, to be held Thursday, February 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Cesar Chavez Community Center Multi-Purpose Room, 7505 Kathryn SE.

The objective of this facilitated meeting is to hear from stakeholders how the sale and consumption of packaged alcohol products impacts their vision for the community. City staff will be on hand to discuss potential ways the sector plan can and cannot address alcohol-related problems in the District. This meeting will also serve as a starting point for an ongoing discussion about other community-based approaches that will advance the positive changes that have already occurred there.

The room will be open at 5:45 p.m. and light snacks will be served. Please RSVP if you are planning to attend. We will send out an agenda prior to the meeting. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

Maggie Gould, Project Manager
