Plumbing/Mechanical Permits and Inspections

A separate permit is required for all plumbing and mechanical work where plumbing fixtures or mechanical equipment are being installed. The building permit does not cover plumbing or mechanical work being done on a project. A permit must be obtained before starting the installation except for emergency work for restoring utilities. For emergency work a permit must be obtained the next working day.

Plumbing/Mechanical Permits

Permits may be issued to plumbing or mechanical contractors licensed in New Mexico or homeowners wishing to do plumbing work to their primary residence. Homeowner’s permits will not be issued for mechanical or gas installations. Mechanical and gas installations must be done by a contractor licensed by the State of New Mexico. To obtain a homeowner’s permit the homeowner must pass the homeowner’s exam before a permit can be issued. Exams are given weekdays at the Plumbing/Mechanical Inspections office.
