Inspections

All construction work for which a permit is required shall be inspected and remain accessible and exposed for inspection until approved by the inspector.

The Building Permit must be on site at all times throughout the construction/modification phase. A set of City-approved plans are required to be on site for each inspection.

Scheduling an inspection

It is the permit holder’s responsibility to make sure that all required inspections are made on a project, including both in-progress inspections and the final inspection.

Inspection requests can be made between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.. Inspections will be scheduled for the following work day.

Call the following phone numbers for inspection requests:

Building Inspections: 505-924-3320

Electrical Inspections: 505-924-3311

Plumbing or Mechanical Inspections: 505-924-3310

Canceling an inspection

Please call the above numbers for cancellation of inspection. Cancellations must be received before an inspector arrives at the inspection site or a reinspection fee will be assessed.

Re-inspections

If permit work does not pass inspection the first time, a re-inspection is necessary. The applicant receives a correction notice from the inspector, listing the items that need to be corrected before the work can pass inspection. The applicant must make the required corrections, and then call the project in for a re-inspection. If the violations cited have not been corrected when the project is re-inspected, a re-inspection fee will be assessed. If an inspector is unable to gain access to an area for an inspection, a re-inspection fee will be assessed. A re-inspection fee must be paid before any further inspections can be done on the permit.
