Animal Welfare Informational Seminars During the Month of October

Pit Bull Awareness Month Training Seminars

Having a well-behaved dog is as much about the owners as the dogs, and people-only seminars are a great way for dog owners to gain knowledge and skills that they can take home and use immediately. Select from these topics:

Wear Out Your Dog Without Leaving the House - Saturday, Oct. 6 - Noon - 1 p.m.
This seminar is perfect for dog owners who struggle to give their dogs enough exercise. If taking your dog for a walk isn’t possible, or if your dog is still hyper and restless after being walked, then it’s time for at-home activities and enrichment! Learn how to engage your dog’s mind and nose as well as their body, and create a well-exercised and relaxed dog without having to leave the house.

Multiple Dogs Without Mayhem: How to run a multi-dog household calmly and peacefully - Saturday, Oct. 6 - 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Many dog owners enjoy having more than one dog, and our dogs can provide each other with companionship and exercise when we’re not around. However, without proper training and management, multiple dog households can devolve into barking, destruction, and infighting. Learn how to manage your pack so that you can all enjoy the companionship without the mayhem!

Everyday Manners: teach dogs to chill out and behave around the house - Saturday, Oct. 20 - 1 - 2 p.m.
Learn quick and reliable methods to teach your dog basic house manners, without having to take them to obedience class or spend weeks on training.

Child Safety and Dog Bite Prevention - Saturday, Oct. 20 - 2 - 2:45 p.m.
Many dog bites can be avoided if we understand what interactions are most likely to lead to a bite, and how to recognize the signs that a dog may be about to bite.  This seminar will introduce simple strategies to prevent dog bites and keep you, your children, and your dogs safe.

What is My Dog Trying to Tell Me? An introduction to dog body language - Saturday, Oct. 27 - Noon - 1 p.m.
Dogs communicate volumes with their movement and body language, and understanding what they are saying is the first step towards having a well-behaved dog, improving your dog’s quality of life, and preventing dog bites. Learn to listen to your dog and start communicating more effectively!

House-training 101: the ins and outs of potty training - Saturday, Oct. 27 - 1 - 2 p.m.
Whether you have a puppy, a newly adopted adult dog, or an existing dog that has never quite gotten house-training, this seminar is for you! Learn how to house-train almost any dog, even if you’ve tried and failed before.
