505 Paws of Hope

Animal Welfare Department and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) have developed a shelter dog training program for youthful offenders.

This program provides an opportunity for youth to perform a service for the community and imparts them compassion, patience and responsibility for a live animal. The shelter dogs receive care from the youth, who help create an environment where the animals could be trained in basic obedience commands and even a special trick or two. The program gives youth the opportunity to learn new skills.

If you would like to donate to support the program here’s how:

The public can drop off their donations of money or items at the Animal Welfare Department Eastside shelter at 8920 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.

Money Donations: Donations are handled through Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres. Please make all checks out to Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres.

Items needed for the shelter dog program: training treats, dog beds, enrichment toys, collars, harnesses, Kong’s, dog crates, brushes, dog shampoos, peanut butter, pooper scoopers, poop bags and animal carpet cleaners.

If you order anything on Amazon through http://smile.amazon.com and select Kennel Kompadres, then a percent of the cost of your purchases will go to Kennel Kompadres every time you order.  At no cost to you.

You can order goodies for the animals at AWD through https://amzn.com/w/5S9A193E58F0 and the Wish List for the Albuquerque Shelter Animals.  This is a direct link to the Kennel Kompadres wish list or you can go to smile.amazon.com and “find wish list" and type "Kennel Kompadres".
