“Summer Cat Strut” Successful At Finding New Homes for Kittens and Cats.

Rings in First Weekend of Summer with Numerous Adoptions

Despite a showery Saturday morning and a lighter-than-usual crowd at the Albuquerque Biological Park because of Father’s Day, Albuquerque Animal Welfare managed to find numerous new homes for the kittens and cats in its care.

Animal Welfare adopted a two day total of 19 kittens and cats into loving homes over the weekend, spurred by special, low fees; an offshoot of the celebration of “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month” at Animal Welfare.

Right now, the fee for cats and kittens under 3 years of age is only $30 (reduced from the usual fee of $39). It includes the cost of your kitten or cat’s spaying or neutering, microchipping (with lifetime registration), Rabies vaccination for one year, other vaccines (such as Rhiotracheitis/Calcivirus/Panleukopenia), a feline leukemia test, any postoperative care (if needed), city license for one year and a free initial veterinarian’s exam from a participating clinic. For Senior Citizens (which according to AARP, starts at age 50), the adoption fee is further reduced to $20. That includes all of the above-mentioned benefits. In addition, the fee for all cats 3 years old and over has been further reduced…to only $10.

“We hope to have more events of this caliber in the coming weeks” says Dr. John A. Romero, Associate Director of Animal Welfare. “This is the time of year when so many loving kittens and cats come into the system in need of forever homes. We aim to work hard this summer to get these homes for them.”
