The Animal Welfare Department, in its continued effort to be a positive partner within the community, awards the winners of its city-wide Poster Contest, as part of Be Kind to Animals Week activities.

Albuquerque Fire Chief James Breen and Barbara Bruin, Director of Animal Welfare will present the certificates.

The winning posters were produced by 9 and 10 year olds from throughout Albuquerque's schools.  They are:

1st Place: Sarah Biggert

2nd Place: McKenna Bailey Jones

3rd Place: Sandra Lujan

A special award is being presented Wednesday, May 5th to Ms. Debbie Doxtator's 4th Grade Class at Southwest Primary Learning Center for the number of quality and creative posters produced by the class. 

The three winners will receive a framed Certificate of Appreciation signed by Mayor Richard J. Berry and Barbara Bruin, Director of the Animal Welfare Department, a Family Four Pack (two adults and two children) of tickets to the Rio Grande Zoo, Pizza for four, and a bag of food appropriate for their pet.

The winning poster will be copied and displayed at the three Animal Welfare Department sites, at city hall, and at various locations around Albuquerque.
