Boca Negra Dam Project

Flood Control and Drainage Improvements Near Boca Negra Canyon

In the area of Boca Negra Canyon, a section of the Petroglyph National Monument managed by the City of Albuquerque Open Space Division, the Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA) is constructing the Boca Negra Dam Project.

The project includes the construction of a 106 acre feet flood control dam at the intersection of Unser and Rainbow, and connecting to a storm drain in the old Atrisco right of way. The storm drain empties into the Boca Negra Arroyo below the escarpment.

The project objectives include providing storm water conveyance and storage, as well as erosion protection to Boca Negra Canyon. Work is scheduled to be completed by December 2013.

Please see the AMAFCA Boca Negra Dam project website for full details.
