ALBUQUERQUE— Astronomy Magazine awarded its 2011 Out-of-this-world Award for excellence in public educational programming to The Albuquerque Astronomical Society (TAAS). The School Star Party program is what made TAAS shine and stand out from the other competitors, but the group offers a variety of opportunities for the public to mingle with astronomers, learn about the cosmos, and get a close up view from member telescopes.
“If you live on a planet,” says Dave Pitonzo, TAAS director at large, “it’s a good idea to know at least a little about what it’s doing.”
To honor and celebrate this achievement, the Open Space Visitor Center will host a star party with TAAS on Saturday, October 6, 2012, 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM. TAAS members will give a general astronomy talk, an asteroid talk and provide telescopes for viewing the vast sky.
