"Remediate" art opening
The exhibit runs in the RECEPTION AREA from April 9th to June 5th
Considering current practices of waste, excess, production, and consumption, Cristine investigates the relationship between humans and the natural world. When we use a carry-out container or buy something we don't really need, do we consider the environmental effects over the longer term? Cristine illustrates these ideas of over-consumption through seed-embedded sculpture similar to Chia Pets. Her cast and hand-built clay representations of manufactured “disposable” actually sprout and cleanse the air through a process called phytoremediation—a small step towards remediating the larger challenges our society faces.
Cristine Posner is a 2011 summa cum laude graduate of New Jersey City University and a 2016 MFA candidate at the University of New Mexico. She is the recipient of numerous awards and recently finished an epic weaving exhibition entitled Recompose at the CFA Downtown Studio. Some of her smaller weavings of consumer items will be on display in the Visitor Center reception area.
