Get involved in this exciting and evolving project in Open Space: Food Forest ABQ!

Our next step is to delve into the design of a forest garden!

  • Could we be creative enough to design our gardens and farms to be as carefree as our wild forests?
  • How do natural forests work, and how can we use that information to grow what we need with less work and water, and also support our bees and other wildlife?

Food forests are are suitable for homes, schools and small scale farms. They are designed by mimicking natural forests, and aim toward the self-reliance and resilience of natural forests. Join a four hour workshop in designing your own food forest. Learn to save time, work and water, while providing not only food, but many of your needs.

A food forest is an intentional assembly of plants which approximate a healthy, natural woodland in function while providing for human needs. By thriving in local conditions with a minimum of maintenance and no wasted resources, this system models a truly permanent agriculture.
