Locally known simply as the bosque, Albuquerque’s riverside forest has Mother Nature’s spring symphony on offer. Step under the canopy of the cottonwoods and listen to the ensemble of birds; compare animal tracks in the Rio Grande mud; follow the drifting bug; and wonder what on earth the tangle of rusting metal angle iron, cable and wire could possibly be.

The bosque is the year-round oasis in our high desert environment and offers habitat for a large variety of birds, mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles and plants. If you haven’t noticed, there is flirting going on in our inter-urban habitat. This is an especially active time for wildlife. Is the bosque a mystery to you? Or would you like to learn more about its wild residents and its history? Join veteran naturalists for a guided walk into this unusual habitat and discover this world away from the city.
