Groups celebrate life of Richard Rivas

Memorial bike ride for outstanding community leader

On Saturday, August 24, 2013, the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation, the Richard Rivas Family, Partnership for Community Action, community members, and Esperanza Community Bike Shop staff rode a four mile route in honor of the late Richard Rivas. Mr. Rivas was a founding member of Albuquerque's 'Recycle a Bicycle' program, the genesis of the new and thriving Esperanza Community Bike Shop. The ride began at the bike shop, and finished at Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation's Valle del Bosque Park. Riders were treated to a free lunch, and the nearly 50 cyclists had a great morning riding, visiting, eating and remembering Mr. Rivas. Thanks to all for a great event! Special thanks to Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office and Albuquerque Police for the great safey riders!
