Bicycle Boulevard Unveiled
Mayor Chávez unveiled the new Bicycle Boulevard along Silver Avenue.
On Tuesday, April 14, Mayor Chávez announced that the highly-anticipated Bicycle Boulevard is near completion.
The Boulevard, which runs for about 7 miles from San Mateo to the Paseo del Bosque trail, mostly along Silver Avenue, features pavement markings, purple street signs, and 18 MPH speed limits, all designed to give priority of the road to bicyclists.
With projects like this one, and the trail bridge over the Rio Grande, it’s no wonder Albuquerque was awarded the League of American Bicyclists 2010 National Rally.
Drivers can expect reduced speed limits along the Bicycle Boulevard. The speed limit is set at a non-standard number to make drivers realize they need to slow down, and APD is on scene to remind drivers that they need to watch out for bicycles and obey the new speed limit.
