The monthly Albuquerque Songwriter Series will take place once again at Slate Street Café in their fabulous Wine Loft on May 1. The session runs 7 - 9 PM and admission is free. Slate Street Café is located at 515 Slate NW Albuquerque, NM (one block north of Lomas between 5th and 6th) 505-243-2210 .
Presented by the City of Albuquerque Music Office, part of the Mayor's Economic Development Department, the monthly songwriter series features a changing lineup of local songwriters and takes place the first Thursday of each month. For our "May Day" edition we are excited to welcome recording and touring singer-songwriter KATE MacLEOD. Kate has record a number of critically acclaimed albums and has toured around the world. She will join the Songwriter Series in advance of her performance at the Outpost on May 3. Joining Kate is veteran Albuquerque songwriter BILL PARNALL and roots-rocker/alt-country guy JOHN THAYER (John Thayer & Hungry Mungry).
The goal of The Albuquerque Songwriter Series is to showcase songwriters from all genres of music by presenting an evening of exploring song craft in an intimate setting. Each month the featured songwriters join each other on stage with host Rob Martinez, Jr. to take turns playing original songs, talk about their origins, how they came to write them, their influences and challenges. Songs range from completed pieces to works in progress.
Mr. Martinez is a songwriter and musician with deep local ties. As well as performing solo and with local outfit The Daddy Os he is a member of New Mexico’s legendary traditional band Los Reyes de Albuquerque. Mr. Martinez is also a member of the Mayor’s Albuquerque Music Advisory Board (AMAB). James de Champlon, also a member of the AMAB and a partner in local record label Little Kiss Records, coordinates the monthly series with City Music Liaison Tom Frouge.
“This series is not about performance, nor is it about perfect voices or playing.” says Mr. Frouge. “It is about the art of song craft, and is not an open mic presentation. The stripped down setting, whether the songs are rock, rap, jazz, classical, folk, world, Latin or country, will showcase the compositions presented as they were written, on a single instrument. It will allow the Albuquerque songwriting community the opportunity to display their wares to other songwriters perhaps learn from one another and, hopefully help nourish that part of the music business in Albuquerque. It will also allow the community at large to get to know these artists through their songs.”
Please note: the Songwriter Series is not an open mic session. or more information on the series and the possibility of participation please contact Tom Frouge, Music Liaison, City of Albuquerque Economic Development Department, Mayor’s Office at 505-771-3166 or tfrouge@cabq.gov

The City of Albuquerque is looking to produce a series of lunchtime concerts during the week for downtown locals and employees to enjoy on Civic Plaza. The current proposed dates are ednesday's in April through the first half of May, with the possibility of extending the series based on response. The show would begin at noon and last approximately one hour. We are looking for fun, upbeat, all ages (no profanity) music. We welcome all genres to apply, jazz, rock and roll, country, ninja jug bands, etc. The City will provide use of the Civic Plaza sound system (no backline.) A small stipend may be available. So if you just love to play for the fun of it to a receptive audience, feel free to apply. Also, for bands who might like to be considered for a future Summerfest, this would be a great way to "audition." The search is on for a Sennheiser sound logo! Sennheiser is launching a global contest to
find an "acoustic trademark" that will best represent our brand. The contest runs through July 17.
What is a sound logo? It can be a memorable mini-melody or a simple sequence of sound that ensures recognition of the brand. (If you've seen an Intel® commercial, you've heard a sound logo). The
goal with this contest is to find a sound that is distinctly Sennheiser.
We're leaving it up to our global customers and Sennheiser enthusiasts to determine just what Sennheiser sounds like, from the logo's creation to a crucial part in the final vote. We are accepting submissions via the sound logo microsite (http://www.se-soundlogo.com/
) Each entrant may send in up to five entries, which must
be uploaded in MP3 format (stereo, 128 kb/s, max. 10 MB) and may not exceed 8 seconds in length.
During early August, a jury of four international judges will select 30 finalists. These final 30 will then face the careful deliberation
of global Internet users when the MP3s are uploaded online for public voting for a two-week period beginning August 15th.
10 lucky people will be considered winners when all is said and
done, but only one will take home the grand prize. The first place winner will receive a prize of 5,000 euros, as well as an optional
30,000 euros if Sennheiser acquires unlimited rights to use the
winning logo. Those who come in the remaining nine places can each
choose from a pair of world-famous HD 650 headphones or a complete ew 300 G2 microphone system.
