Tiffany Concert Series: Classical Music of the Early 20th Century

This concert is a sampling of the kind of music that New Yorkers would have heard in concert halls of the early 20th Century. They include works by composers Stravinsky, Copland and Gershwin. As Clara Driscoll was a frequent attendee of all kinds of musical performances, she likely heard one or more of these pieces. Concert is free with Museum admission; seating first come, first served.

Clara Driscoll often wrote about attending the opera while living in New York City, and particularly expressed a love for the operas of Richard Wagner. This concert will feature songs by Charles Ives, Amy Beach, Aaron Copland, Giuseppe Verdi, and Richard Wagner. Concert is free with Museum admission; seating first come, first served.

Music: The New Mexico Jazz Workshop's Jazz and Blues Under the Stars - Tribute Trio: Acoustic and Electric
Saturday, June 25, 7:00 p.m.
The Tribute Trio was formed in 2010 to honor the powerful influence of jazz pianists/composers whose works compel listeners and musicians alike and helped shape the evolution of jazz. Pianist John Rangel, bassist Michael Glynn and drummer Cal Haines reached deep into the essence of this music, focusing on these legends' original compositions. For their Jazz Under the Stars performance, The Tribute Trio will present an acoustic first set and mostly electronic second set, giving a full-spectrum of the composers featured in the series, original compositions from the Tribute Trio "Dedications" CD, and likely some works by additional composers not previously featured. $15, $13, $12
Tiffany Concert Series: Late 19th and Early 20th Century String Quartets

String Quartets are an oft performed genre within chamber music. As Clara Driscoll attended many concerts during her time in New York City, she probably heard many string quartets of the time. This concert will feature Antonin Dvorak’s “American String Quartet" and Arnold Schoenberg’s “Quartet No. 2 with Soprano." Concert is free with Museum admission; seating first come, first served.
Performance: The Lost Ending

Friday, July 1 at 3:00 p.m.
This theatre performance for children of all-ages will be presented by FUSION Theatre Company. How did the first fairy tale originate? How does creativity continue through imagination? A troupe of Players presents a "story hour," but when the book is lost, they decide to improvise an ending with the help of the audience.

George Bernard Shaw’s one-act play follows two couples as they decide whether to follow the social moirés of the time or their hearts. This comedy of manners is directed and performed by FUSION Theatre Company (www.fusionabq.org). Seating for this event is first come, first served. Kevin Eubanks is a gifted musician and prolific composer whose own band, the Kevin Eubanks Quartet, has been evolving for close to twenty years. Kevin is also well known as the Music Director of The Tonight Show Band, appearing on the show 18 years (1992 - 2010). Kevin has won over audiences with a laid back style and an affability that seems to belie the concentration and focus that have made him both a household word for TV viewers and a consummate guitarist.
Larry Mitchell is a solo artist, sideman, songwriter and music producer. As a solo artist Larry's has released six guitar instrumental records which met with significant critical acclaim. The albums range from mellow acoustic to scorching rock arrangements. As a sideman, Mitchell toured as guitarist for a wide range of musical artists, including Tracy Chapman, Billy Squier, and Ric Ocasek. $30, $25, $20

Conversation: Creative Collaboration

Los Angeles based painter and performance artistGronk and renowned opera and stage director Peter Sellars team up for a conversation on creative collaboration. Both joined forces for the Santa Fe Opera's 2011 production of Griselda by Vivaldi, featuring a dynamic set design by Gronk.Gronk is creating a site specific work at The Albuquerque Museum and will be painting one hour before the program. Talk: Art Nouveau: In Search of a Universal Aesthetic (Part 1)

In this two part talk, Curator of Art Andrew Connors will examine the Art Nouveau movement which developed out of the Arts and Crafts celebration of organic forms and hand made objects in opposition to modern mass production. These talks will touch upon architecture, decorative arts, graphic design, music, painting, and sculpture from Europe and the United States from the late 19th century until World War I. Talk: A Visual History of Stained Glass in Albuquerque

Curator of History Deborah Slaney will describe some of the early stained glass work made in Albuquerque between 1880 and the 1930s, including windows and panels from buildings that no longer exist, as well as more recently assembled windows in buildings that can be visited today.

The Ben Martinez Project currently focuses on original modern jazz compositions w/ occasional covers of Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Jaco Pastorius, etc. BMP has been heavily influenced by the likes of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and Charlie Parker. In live performance and in the studio, BMP focuses on the solid delivery of each melody. They now reside in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area of NM and travel in and out of the state to perform at Jazz festivals throughout the US.
Formed in 2009, Red Hot & Red is the first all-Native American Jazz trio in the world. Red Hot Red blends traditional jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms the spirit and energy of Native heritage.Red, Hot & Red is made up of pianist Steve Figueroa, from Laguna Pueblo, bassist Rob “Milo” Jaramillo, from Isleta Pueblo and drummer Louie Speaking Eagle, a Zacatec Indian ceremonial leader. $13, $11, $10

Harvest Festival
Saturday September 24 and Sunday September 25, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Casa San Ysidro will join the Village of Corrales for Harvest Festival. There will be traditional New Mexico Arts demonstrations and vendors on site during this two day event. Activities include weaving and blacksmith demonstrations, horno bread making, and children's activities. Admission is free.
