Free Thursday Evenings at the Museum

Join us for free from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on the following Thursday evenings. In addition to special programs, different Museum exhibits will be open for viewing, the Gallery Store will be open, and Slate at the Museum will be serving light dinner options, snacks, and beverages from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

 

 

 

3rd Thursday: Ancient Americas Family Night

Thursday, June 21, 2012, 5-8:30 p.m.

Drop the kiddos off to create artwork inspired by the ancients while you sample chocolate and learn about its role from chocolate artisan and historian, Mark Sciscenti (limited seating).  Pick up the kids after the talk and enjoy a 7:30 pm performance by Aztec dance group, PAZ Ehecatl.

3rd Thursday Concert Series: Music of Latin America

Thursday, July 19, 5-8:30 pm, Concert at 6:00 p.m.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Exploring Art of the Ancient Americas, this series features classical music from and/or inspired by Latin America. All music is performed by the Chatter Players.

This concert will focus on 20th century composers who researched Latin American indigenous music and instruments.  They incorporated these themes and instruments into their work in different and interesting ways.

Thursday August 16,5-8:30 pm, Talk Begins at 6:30 p.m.

Hear the talk The Ancient Americas in Modern Art by Andrew Connors, Curator of Art, which explores indigenous influences on the visual arts, architecture,and music.  Take a seat at the dialogue tables to share influences on your contemporary lifestyle.
