Director of Communications Matt Ross

Born and raised in Dallas, Matt studied Government at the University of Texas at Austin while working in the Texas Legislature, becoming the first in his family to graduate from college.

After working elections in Texas, Virginia, Iowa, and Nevada, Matt came to New Mexico in 2008, and over the next 6 years worked on over a dozen New Mexico campaigns as a fundraising and communications strategist. In 2014, he joined the staff of Mayor Javier Gonzales in Santa Fe, where he oversaw citywide communications for each department and managed major public education campaigns, including the transformation of the Midtown Campus, major bond initiatives, and the City’s first-ever Ranked Choice Voting election.

Coming back home to Albuquerque, Matt joined Mayor Keller’s team in 2019 as Communications Director, working with a team of Public Information staff to keep Burqueños informed about and engaged with their local municipal government, especially where it comes to Mayor Keller’s top priorities of fighting crime, tackling homelessness, supporting working families and childhood development, and carving a unique path forward in our response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Drawn by Albuquerque's natural beauty and one-of-a-kind diversity in culture, food, music, and lifestyle, Matt spends his free time reading, hiking, mountain biking or listening to live music with his partner of 12 years, Chelsey, their son Patterson, and their dog Sancho Panza.
