FORUM #3 RESTORATION, RECREATION AND LAND MANAGEMENT
Moderator: Ross Coleman, Hydra Aquatic, Inc.
Invited Panelists: Barbara Baca, City of Albuquerque, Parks and Recreation
Steve Harris, Rio Grande Restoration
Michael Jensen, Amigos Bravos
The level of interest about planning for proposed improvements to the Bosque within Rio Grande Valley State Park has been exceptional and has resulted in good discussion and many ideas on how to plan for the future of the Rio Grande Valley State Park. The City Open Space Division is engaged in environmental monitoring, which began in September 2013, and will occur through the winter and spring nesting season, and through the summer of 2014 for collection of data on plants and soils. This environmental monitoring will influence future management decisions and improvements to Rio Grande Valley State Park.
While the monitoring is taking place, a series of four (4) public educational forums will be offered. A wide range of topics will be covered, including: history and culture, environmental education and climate change, restoration and recreation, and the Bosque’s future will be presented. Concurrent with the last three educational forums will be ‘Walk and Talks’ events in April, May, and June 2014 in the Bosque. Participants will have an opportunity to walk in Rio Grande Valley State Park with City of Albuquerque Open Space educators and representatives from partnering agencies to learn about research, restoration, land management and recreation activities in the Bosque.
These forums have been collectively organized by representatives from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, City of Albuquerque, Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, Bosque Ecological Monitoring Program and the University of New Mexico.
