Volunteer Revamps Financial System of Non-profit Dental Care Organization

Volunteer of the Month: Charlotte Elliott

January 13, 2017

Albuquerque- Today, Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized Charlotte Elliot as the City of Albuquerque’s Volunteer of the Month for securing the financial records of a local non-profit organization that specializes in home-based dental care.

Since 2011, Elliott has served as the Treasurer of Dental Care in Your Home’s (DCIYH’s) board. Dental Care in Your Home is a non-profit organization that provides mobile dental care services for New Mexican’s who are homebound or who have special needs.

Recently, DCIYH’s primary computer system completely stopped functioning, requiring Elliott to rebuild the organization’s entire financial history. Elliott spent three weeks working around the clock poring over vast amounts of paper files. Because of the time she spent and because of her meticulous file keeping, she was able to reconstruct the organization’s electronic financial records from the ground up. Following this initial overhaul, she continues to volunteer many hours each month working to maintain the integrity of the organization’s financial system. With an aim to promote the organization’s growth, Elliott has also spent extra time moving DCIYH to a new accounting platform to ensure consistency.

In addition to serving on DCIYH’s board, Elliott is an active board member of the Albuquerque Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). From 2008-2009 she served as the IMA’s President. Elliott is also a Director on the Global Board for Stuart Cameron McLeod Society (SCMS), which is a part of the Global Institute of Management Accountants.

When she is not volunteering, Elliott works full-time as an accountant at AMERIND Risk Management. Her commitment to volunteerism and the Dental Care in Your Home organization is the reason why she was chosen to be the City of Albuquerque’s Volunteer of the Month for the month of January 2017.
