Q Bike is Coming
City to put Bike Kiosks Around Town
With gas prices continuing to increase, today Mayor Chávez announced that ClearChannel Outdoor has been awarded the RFP to provide a public bicycle fleet for rent to enhance our mass-transportation system. “Albuquerque is known as one of the best bicycling cities in the U.S., therefore it makes sense to consider bike sharing as a way to improve local transportation with a low environmental footprint,” said the Mayor.
ClearChannel Outdoor is one of the world pioneers in bike sharing programs, starting programs in Washington DC and Europe. ClearChannel proposes a “no-cost” option that is paid for through advertising on digital displays, at the kiosk, and on the bicycle this would fund 100% of the cost of the Q-Bike Program
The ClearChannel proposal includes:
- 25 Bicycle Kiosks and Bicycle Docking Stations
- A permanent stock of 420 to 600 bicycles
- A GPS network that will monitor the use of the bicycles
- 100% of system and bicycle maintenance and staffing
- Re-distribution and rotation of bicycles
