Pay Raise for ABQ Firefighters Approved

Mayor Berry approves a 2.5 percent pay increase for all Albuquerque firefighters

July 2, 2015

Albuquerque-Mayor Richard J. Berry and the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 244 President Diego Arencon announced a contract agreement between the city and the union that includes a raise for all Albuquerque Fire Department firefighters.

The agreement represents the second contract between Mayor Berry's administration and IAFF Local 244. The increase calls for a 2.5 percent salary bump across the board, with 1.25 percent this month and 1.25 percent in March 2016.  The contact also mandates fitness standards for all firefighters, as well as medical screenings.

Mayor Berry acknowledged the hard work of all the parties involved in coming to an agreement.

“I am pleased that my management team has been able to work in good faith with the union leadership to negotiate a pay proposal that acknowledges the hard work of our men and women of the Albuquerque Fire Department, while still maintaining a fiscally responsible budget on behalf of the taxpayers,” stated Mayor Berry. "Much credit goes to (Albuquerque Fire Deputy) Chief David Downey and Chief Administrative Officer Robert Perry for their ability to accomplish this agreement.”
