Parks & Recreation Employee Changes Tire for Pool Patron

Employee of the Week: Kent Vigil

November 7, 2017

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Today, Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized Kent Vigil, Pool Manager at Eisenhower Pool, as the Employee of the Week.

This past July while on shift at Eisenhower Pool, Vigil noticed a patron arrive for her child’s swimming lessons with a flat tire on her car. Without hesitation, Vigil walked over and offered the woman assistance to change her tire. He grabbed all the tools he needed and immediately went to work changing the tire while the woman stayed with her child in the swimming lessons. By the time the lessons were over, the tire was fixed and the woman was back on the road.

With nine years of service at the Parks and Recreation Department, Vigil started out working as a lifeguard, then rose to head lifeguard and has since been promoted to outdoor pool supervisor. His manager says he is an exemplary employee who is always the first to volunteer to help out in any way he can. In this situation, Vigil’s attention to detail and his ability to recognize when someone was in need, allowed him to go above and beyond the call of duty by assisting to change a patron’s flat tire. For that kindness and compassion, we honor Kent Vigil as next week’s City of Albuquerque Employee of the Week.
