Officer Purchases a Heater for a Citizen
May 8, 2015
Albuquerque- Today, Mayor Richard J. Berry honored an Albuquerque Police Officer for going out of his way to secure the wellbeing of an Albuquerque citizen who was the victim of a theft. It is because of Officer Christopher Wetterlund’s generous actions that he is this week’s Friday’s Hero.
This past December, Officer Wetterlund was dispatched to a home on the northeast side of Albuquerque in reference to a theft. When Officer Wetterlund arrived he talked to the woman and she told him that she had ordered a propane heater to be shipped to her door. She knew her packages had been shipped, but she never received them. She told the officer that she believed the packages were stolen because this had happened to her before. Officer Wetterlund talked to Fed Ex and found out that the woman’s package was delivered to another home and they took full responsibility for the mistake. With temperatures dropping below freezing at nighttime, Officer Wetterlund decided to take matters into his own hands, and headed to Home Depot to buy a heater for the woman. Officer Wetterlund used his own money to pay for a similar heater, and gave it to the homeowner. Later, he found out that Fed Ex was sending a new heater the following week.
Officer Wetterlund showed great compassion as he ensured the wellbeing of this citizen and made sure she was comfortable in her home at his own expense. The actions Officer Wetterlund took that cold December day, display his dedication to the citizens of Albuquerque. As a Police Officer, his job is to protect and serve, but in this situation he went far above and beyond.
