Next Steps for the Central Avenue Corridor

ALBUQUERQUE– What if your neighborhood or business could plan for a massive investment in infrastructure near where you live or work? How would you decide on strategies likely to serve the most people?

That’s the opportunity before participants in the Central Avenue Corridor workshop, which gets underway Tuesday evening, March 7, and closes on Monday evening, March 13. Between those two events, a consulting team of designers, planners and other specialists will be working with community members to come up with recommendations to make the most of a once-in-a-generation investment in transit along Albuquerque’s historic Central Avenue.

This is not a start-from-scratch process. Local leaders and citizens have taken part in conversations and in research gathering that got us to this point. Now, it’s time to move into the phase that builds on that work and begins pointing towards specific planning and design approaches. Strategies will be measured against their likelihood to spread opportunity throughout the Central Avenue Corridor and beyond.
