September 3, 2019

This afternoon, Mayor Tim Keller introduced a new team to lead the City of Albuquerque Planning Department, which guides building, development, code enforcement and urban design. The new team is committed to moving the department forward. New leaders include:

  • Jolene Wolfley as Associate Director
  • James Aranda as Deputy Director
  • Bobby Griego as Deputy Director

“Albuquerque is growing, with nearly $1 billion in new construction planned or underway in major projects alone,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “As we work to make our city more inclusive, safer, and more sustainable, the built environment matters a great deal. Our new diverse and talented leadership team in the department is positioned to help our city progress while sustaining our unique character and engaging neighborhoods in the process.”

Brennon Williams, a Sandia High and UNM graduate whose internship at the Planning Department in college led to a career in the field, has been appointed as the permanent director.

Associate Director Jolene Wolfley

Wolfley earned her Bachelors in City Planning and Geography from BYU and her Masters in City Planning from MIT. She was a Senior Planner and Planning Manager for the City of Phoenix for 10 years and served on the Planning Department faculty at Arizona State. Jolene moved to Albuquerque 20 years ago where she and her husband raised their four children.

Deputy Director James Aranda

Aranda graduated with distinction from UNM with a Master’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning and has over fifteen years of experience in planning and urban design in the non-profit, public, and private sectors. He joined the City after serving as the Community Development Director for Valencia County. James is also an accomplished visual artist and a founding member of Albuquerque poetry troupe Angry Brown Poets. He lives in Atrisco with his wife and daughter.

Deputy Director Robert “Bobby” Griego

Bobby Griego brings experience in budgeting, legislative affairs, and human resources to the Planning Department. Most recently he served as an Executive Project Manager in the Mayor’s Office and has previously worked at the Legislative Finance Committee. Bobby graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration in 2004.  He and his wife are raising two kids and a shepherd mix in Albuquerque.
