November 9, 2012
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized several members from the Albuquerque Police Department for their roles in busting a serial car theft duo.
This summer Officers Marcus Espinoza and Homero Alvidrez were sent to check out an area where a dark sedan was seen driving erratically through the neighborhood and hitting mailboxes. The detestable acts of these two suspects was causing damage to the community and making the neighbors very uneasy.
Once the Officers arrived, they noticed a blue Honda Acura that matched the description of a stolen vehicle that had just been flagged. Officer Homero noticed a man and woman standing in front of the Honda.
He shined his spotlight on the scene and man took off running away from the officers. The woman complied with the officers and laid on the ground while her partner in crime left her behind. Working together the members of APD’s “Team 7” quickly set up a perimeter of the area to look for the male suspect.
Eventually the Officers of Team 7 we able to track down the suspect and arrest him. Further investigations by the team Detective, Matthew Morales, led to evidence that the criminal duo had been responsible for at least seven auto thefts in the Foothills Area Command.
These officers all came together to take this stealing duo off the streets of the City of Albuquerque.
