Mayor proposes resolution celebrating KAFB and Sandia National Labs
Albuquerque—Mayor Richard J. Berry is submitting a resolution to the Albuquerque City Council highlighting the tremendous contributions of Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories and their importance to national security and our local economy. City Councilor Brad Winter will sponsor the resolution and champion for its passing.
“Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories are instrumental to national security, freedom around the world, and our local economy,” Mayor Berry said. “We want to communicate loud and clear that Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories are welcomed and appreciated in Albuquerque.”
The resolution states the total economic impact Kirtland Air Force Base brings to Albuquerque is $5.6 billion with more than 25,500 people working in high skill jobs. The resolution also states Sandia National Laboratories performs major research and development functions in the areas of homeland security, energy, and environmental technologies.
The Mayor has requested that this resolution be put on immediate action during the October 18th City Council meeting.
