Albuquerque, NM— In a move that will lead to expanded before and after school programs, Mayor Richard Berry and City Councilor Trudy Jones cut the ribbon after the completion of the renovation of the Holiday Park Community Center.
"This facility used to be an open air shelter in the 1970’s," Mayor Berry said. "Today, we are standing in the only full service community center in District 8."
Holiday Park Community Center currently serves the largest before and after school programs in the City. The renovation will allow Family and Community Services to meet the expanding need to serve more children.
"I am so proud of the community rallying together to get this project completed," City Councilor Jones said. "This great new facility is the result of collaboration between City staff and my constituents."
The new Holiday Park Community Center has a new meeting room, small service kitchen, small fitness room, exercise room, computer lab, game room, and a mini-gym with basketball facilities.
The new facility is approximately 18,000 square feet. Kells + Craig was the design consultant, HB Construction was the contractor. The Department of Municipal Development supervised construction, the Department of Family and Community Services will continue to run the center.
