Mayor Berry will also be serving on The Defense Transition Task Force focusing on the issues involved as the nation shifts defense strategies that may produce reductions in defense spending and base closures/realignments.  Members of the new task force will work with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, other top Administration officials, and defense industry leaders to manage the profound effects on cities expected from polies changes at the national level.

"Sandia National Labs, AFRL and Kirtland AFB are critical to our national defense and are pillars of our local economy," said Mayor Berry.  "We need to work together to support their missions and their funding."

The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) is the official non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are 1,296 such cities in the country today. Each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor.  Mayor Berry was appointed to the Advanced Manufacturing and Defense Transition Task Forces.
