Albuquerque, NM— Mayor Richard J. Berry was joined by City Councilor Dan Lewis to cut the ribbon officially opening the widened Unser Boulevard from McMahon Boulevard to Black Arroyo.
"This project shows how Albuquerque is providing quality basic services to the region," Mayor Berry said. “Now that we’ve completed the construction of Unser from the Sandoval County line to Sen. Dennis Chavez to the south, we need to work with our developer partners to build the ultimate four lane roadway."
Crews installed a new storm drain system with inlets, and reconstructed the existing two lane roadway to a full four lane road with bike lanes, curb and gutter, medians, mutli use trail and sidewalk.
"Unser Boulevard is a critical north/south roadway for Albuquerque’s west side," Councilor Dan Lewis said. “This widening project allows more people to access live/work/play areas on the west side."
The $1 M project, which began in May, was paid for with ¼ cent transportation tax funds and general obligation bonds.
WH Pacific was the design consultant, Albuquerque Asphalt was the contractor.
